A Philatelic Ramble Through Chemistry

This is not a history of chemistry which uses stamps instead of the usual illustrations, but a collection of short essays commemorative postage stamp and comments on such chemistry as can be found on postage stamps commemorative postage stamp and other philatelic items. Commemorative stamp - A commemorative stamp is a postage stamp issued to honor or commemorate a place, event or person. Most postal services of the world issue several of these each year, often holding first day of issue ceremonies at locations connected with the subjects.

Postage stamp design error - A postage stamp design error is a mistake made during the design phase of the postage stamp production process. Design errors most commonly occur as minor mistakes, such as a missing letter in the binomial name of an organism depicted on the stamp, but some have been major gaffes, such as a map appearing to lay claim to another country's territory, or the depiction of the wrong person on the stamp.

Postage stamp reprint - A reprint of a postage stamp occurs when the stamp-issuing authority makes additional printings of a stamp after its normal period of usage. A reprint may or may not be valid as postage.

Postage stamp reuse - In the earlier days of the postage stamp, postal officials worried much about the problem of postage stamp reuse, and invented a number of schemes to mark or deface the stamps.
